All Hail the Whisky Stramash!

5 years and still going strong, the Whisky Stramash is an event held in Edinburgh, the 2016 dates are Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May held at the Surgeon’s Hall on Nicholson Street. Be quick if you’re keen, some elements are already sold out!

What is it?

The Whisky Stramash is a whisky event aimed at challenging some of the stuffy perceptions of Scotch and other worldly whiskies. At the Whisky Stramash there will be over 200 different whiskies from around the world to sample and a number of participatory experiences that “Stramashers” can get involved in.

Confirmed so far: Bunnahabhain, Ledaig, Tobermory, Deanston, AD Rattray, Glen Moray, Aberfeldy, Craigellachie and Aultmore, Douglas Laing, Big Peat, Scally Wag, Lost Distillery Company (with Stratheden, Auchnagie, Gerston and Jericho), Highland Park Whisky, Glen Garioch, The Glenrothes.Hibiki, Yamazaki, Hakushu Japanese Whiskies, Ardmore Laphroaig, Bowmore , Connemara Irish Whiskey…

The rather clever fellows that run the event insist that all experiences are included in the price of the entry ticket (£29.15 including fees) and do not run a voucher system for sampling, however if you want to purchase a gourmet pie, a bottle of your favourite, a Glencairn glass for sampling or even perhaps a pint of something slightly more refreshing you will need to bring some cash.

The event is for those that know nothing to those very experienced – my journey in this environment tells me I’ll need some guidance and they have ambassadors on hand to provide insights and deep knowledge (phew).

The website states: “The Whisky Stramash is an encounter of many elements and experiences; you can expect the opportunity to sample, and purchase if you wish, a huge array of amazing whiskies from Scotland and abroad.

The Stramash is an event of mystery, entertainment, comicality and madcap pioneering. It would be foolish for us to tell you all the tremendous and magnificent plans we have for this year’s Stramash, yet we are not so foolhardy that we would expect you to part with your hard earned bullion without just cause. We will shortly unveil this year’s hair brained master plans you can expect to enjoy at this year’s Whisky Stramash narrative...”
